What's the purpose of the youth ministry?

Solid Source Youth exists to SHARE the Gospel of Christ, to encourage OBEDIENCE to God, to reach out in LOVE one to another, to IDENTIFY with fellow believers, and to DISCOVER a deeper relationship with God through His Word.

Our purpose statement is grounded in 5 principles taken directly from Scripture.

Matthew 22:37-40
"Jesus replied, 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."

Matthew 28:19-20
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surly I am with you always to the very end of the age."

The 5 Principles are:

1. Evangelism: SHARE
2. Worship: OBEDIENCE
3. Ministry: LOVE
4. Fellowship: IDENTIFY
5. Discipleship: DISCOVER

How can I get involved?

Honestly, the short answer is to just show up. Think of Solid Source Youth as gas for your car on your faith journey. If you never fill up you won't get very far. Make it a priority to be a part of all that's going on at Solid Source Youth and you'll find loads of unique ways to fill up and continue on in your faith journey.

As with any trip, it's always a good idea to have a road map with you. We believe the same is true with your involvement with us.  That's why we provide our monthly Google calendar (which you may print off for yourself) as well as the INFO HQ; your one stop for detailed information on what's going on with SSY.

What's The Loft?

The Loft is the name referring to the youth area located on the second story of the North Wing of the church.  It's not too difficult to find as this is the only part of the building on a second story.  But if you're having trouble finding it--walk through the gym (away from the main part of the building) and go into the new addition, up the stairs and you're there...standing in The Loft.

What's the BYIC?

BYIC stands for Brethren Youth In Christ. The BYIC is this: a movement of students who are impacting their world for Christ through relationships, training and service.

The BYIC functions on 3 levels. From the top down, you have the National level, followed by the District level and finally there is the Local level (that's us).

The National level is made up of youth from 9 different districts from all across the country. The highlight of the National level is the week long National Engage Conference, held each summer. Of course there is tons more to the National level, and the best way to discover what else there is, is to check out their web site:

On the District level, Solid Source Youth is one of 30 plus churches and youth groups from Indiana (and one in Ohio) that gather several times a year for combined events.

Finally there is the Local level. That's us right here in Nappanee. Solid Source Youth focuses its attention on the youth of Nappanee and the surrounding area.

All in all the BYIC is a wonderful group of youth and adults that are being used of God to impact their world. Join us in the adventure!

Who are the Brethren?

Some have described the Brethren and the Brethren Church as "feet washers!" That's true, but we're far more than that. In fact the Brethren Church is a community of believers steadfast in commitment to Jesus Christ, and obedient to the Bible as our guide for faith and practice. The purpose of our church therefore is focused on worship, discipleship, service and evangelism. Brethren seek to be channels for God's love by being a compassionate community of His ambassadors.

If you are interested in knowing more about the Brethren Church you can visit their web site.

Who's in charge of Solid Source Youth?

We believe that a team is far greater than any one person. That's why we've assembled a couple of teams to assist Pastor Ryan in planning and implementing the different aspects of Solid Source Youth. The two primary leadership teams are the Adult Youth Staff and the SALT (Students Advancing in Leadership Training) Team.

The Adult Youth Staff are adults who have a passion to serve students through their unique gifts and abilities. Adult Youth Staff volunteer their time; some weekly, some monthly, some every now and then. These adults love to hang out, listen, talk, play, share advice, go out to eat, pray with and for you, and basically be there when you need them.

The SALT Team on the other hand, is a group of students who have committed to a year of leadership training and mentoring. As part of their training, they help in the planning and implementation of the youth ministry. They are sort of like the eyes and ears of the larger youth group.

If you have a question, suggestion, or problem feel free to talk to any of these individuals.

Is there anything else I ought to know?

As you may have already guessed, there is far more to Solid Source Youth than can be listed here. However, there are a couple more programs and opportunities for you to be involved with.

Service Projects:
Throughout the year we attempt to conduct 3-4 service project that impact the Nappanee community. Everything from can drives, to rake and runs, to...well, you name it and we've either done it or are willing to maybe try it. We feel that as Christians it's important to serve those in need and that through service opportunities we are able to share the love of Jesus with those around us.

Sunday Morning Worship:
You can't forget this. It's one of the most important parts to a healthy Christian life. We have two services here at NFBC, 8:00 am and 10:30 am. Each service has it's own flavor and feel, but one thing doesn't change, the presence of God in the service. Look for the youth sitting up towards the front and join us. There's always an open spot!  We also offer unique Jr. High and Sr. High Sunday School inbetween the morning service.  Be warned, this isn't your typical Sunday School, this is actually worth getting up early for.
